Finding high profile contacts is one of the most important things you need to do in the world of sales. Even if you have a fantastic product, if you do not know anybody to help you launch or sell it, you are pretty much stuck. Generating contacts is not a difficult endeavor, as there are networking opportunities all around you that you are probably just ignoring. Not only can contacts help you further your career, but they can provide valuable sales leads and opportunities.

For example, a contact could be able to get you a steeply discounted advertising deal, or set you up with someone who can improve your business in some other way. Additionally, you can meet new people through just a single contact, so that one turns in to many. If you have been doing business fairly over the last few years, you should already know a lot of people who can help you, and you can gain more contacts through a variety of methods.

One source of contacts is right in front of you, and that is your already existing client base. Clients who give positive testimonials can be a powerful sales tool, and as long as they had a good experience, you can usually easily convince them to share their experience with others. Sometimes, you will not even need to ask.

Social networking is becoming an increasingly popular way to meet people. While the original connotation of social networks was a teen hangout, social networking websites have become forums for businesses of all sorts. Even Barack Obama and other important political figures have Facebook and MySpace pages. By participating in a social network long enough, and searching for people in your area who share your interests, you can meet new people quickly. While the majority of people you meet will not be able to do anything significant for you, you will inevitably cross a few users who are useful (and in turn you can help them with something they need).
