Buyer beware. What sounds too good to be true usually is. You ever see those infomercials real late at night with all of the people earning $10k their first week? 9 times out of 10, when you go to call these companies, they'll want to sell you your own "business kit". If someone is promising you $10,000 a month, but they want you to pay them up front, it's normally too good to be true.

These businesses are in the business of selling dreams, and that's about it. Most of the time you aren't going to stand a chance of making any real money, and a lot of the time if you do make money it'll be doing work you could have done by yourself anyways.

Another common business scam is multi level marketing, commonly known as "MLM" or "Pyramid schemes". There are some legitimate MLM companies out there, but for the most part it's a good idea to steer clear of such businesses.

They usually use a marketing method known as "top down" marketing, which means that the only people who are going to make any real money are the people who either started the business in the first place, or got on board early enough to get people recruited underneath of them to make them money. These businesses usually make most of their money from selling the business opportunity itself, not a legitimate product.

A big warning sign to watch out for is a promise of wealth. Unless you're paying several million dollars you're going to have to be extremely lucky to find a real business opportunity that can make you rich over night.

Again, if something looks too good to be true it usually is. Also, always beware of anyone who promises wealth or money for nothing. There isn't a business in the world that people can succeed in without hard work. If you're wanting to run your own home business without putting in hard work, you may find yourself looking for a very long time to come.

Up at the top of this page, you'll notice a "home business kits" link. These are kits that we have tested and found to be legitimate opportunities. Like any opportunity however, they do require work in order to be successful.
