If you're stuck with the task of planning an office party, you might find yourself a little overwhelmed, or maybe you're enthusiastic and are ready to take on the task. Whether you are the former or the latter, there are some things you need to know and need to take into consideration.
Under the circumstance that you do feel overwhelmed, think about it like this. Next to your regular office duties, this should be a refreshing break where you get to express a different kind of creativity and show another side to your character. Planning a party can even be an opportunity to impress your boss, if you do a good job. And when you think about it, a party isn't that hard. All you need is some food, drinks, decorations, and maybe some music, all of which can be found in local shops around where you live.
Of course, you can't just take anything you see. You have to understand what your coworkers want out of the party, and what things would make everyone feel best. If your office or company has a logo or specific color scheme, you should incorporate that into the decorations, even go as far as getting the same color plates, cups, and forks. And you've probably been given a budget (much more likely than not), and you have to stay within that budget. You might see something that you really like, but it's outside your budget range. You could always buy it with your own money, and if you feel like it would greatly enhance the atmosphere and your own entertainment, it's fine.
Christmas parties, which is actually one of the few parties that is almost guaranteed throughout the year, is something you have to be careful about if you are planning the office party. While what follows is an unusual circumstance, some people get offended when the decorations focus toward one side of the religious spectrum; Christian or Jewish (Islam is rarely part of the equation). Make sure that nothing like this could happen before setting up decorations. If necessary, you might need to incorporate Christian and Jewish themes into your party so no one gets upset. It's better to be proactive than face an awkward situation head on.
