Getting To The Point

As a general rule, you should be enthusiastic and confident about the product you are selling. If you are not, then you either need to find something else to sell or get a different career. Sales is one of those fields where you just cannot succeed without passion, so it is critical that you are not lacking in that field.

The reason you need passion is so that you can have the confidence to immediately tell your prospective customers what you are offering and how it can help them. Those who do not fully believe in their product do not get right to the point; they stall by reciting some kind of anecdote or giving vague customer testimonials. In sales, you need to get right to the point. Immediately tell your prospect what you are selling, and do not give them any time to make initial objections. Paint a picture for them by elaborating on the benefits and features of your product, and how it will make their life better in some way. It is amazing how much your sales will increase by following this simple rule.

You need to be just as assertive with the closing of a sale as you are with the previous steps of it. As was noted, if you are passionate about your product, you should want everyone else to have it just because it is great, so initiating the actual transaction should not be difficult. If you know that your prospect is expressing high levels of interest, just come out and say, "So are you ready to sign the agreement?" or "When do you want the product delivered?" These direct methods of closing are quite effective, especially when a prospect is intent on making a purchase.
