In the world of sales, one is always told to steer clear of controversial issues like politics, religion, and other things of that nature. During intense times, like in an election, this is certainly true, but after a monumental event, it is okay to utilize politics to your benefit.

History was made on November 4th, 2008 when Barack Obama was elected the first African-American President in United States history. Not only is this a significant step in fixing the economy, but the sheer impact of this election has left people feeling happy and optimistic. Although the economy is in a state of ruin, and only looks to get worse, what matters are people's emotions and their outlook towards the future. This is the perfect time to tap in to that hope.

Big ticket items such as homes and automobiles will probably see increases in sales, as those industries see the most growth in times like these. Of course the growth will not be too excessive, as the economy still needs lots of fixing, but some should be seen. If you happen to be in these industries, make sure to use the situation to your advantage. Talk about the grand prospects for the future and the benefits that everyone will experience. You can even be so bold as to voice your support for Obama. It is important to make sure that the prospect already agrees with you, but problems are not likely to arise even if they did support McCain.

If you are not a very political person, don't worry. This is simply one of many methods that can be used to increase your personal sales, and is not necessary. Politics might not fit your style, and that is perfectly okay.
